Did you have your cavitation surgery? If so, did it help with your tremors? Or any other noted benefits?

What kind of seasonal systems have you developed over the years and how have the evolved. We have four children and live on a hobby farm with goats, chickens, sometimes pigs. We drive long distances for school + activities. My husband works in the city. So some seasons the farm feels like an after thought and others it feels more in balance. As my children get bigger I am able to spend more time on the land and with the animals. It feels like baby steps towards where I want to go with it all and sometimes that there is so much to do and just not enough time. Was it the same for you when your girls were growing up?

Would love to hear some recipes and processes around the new fresh milled loaves you are making. My most successful sourdough sandwich loaves that are 100% Fresh Milled use the tangzhong method to get a nice rise and soft texture. Is this something you do too or do you have other techniques? (Long autolyse? Etc)

Second this question 🌟 we were gifted a grain mill last year which has been amazing - I make anything with flour with freshly milled but struggle to do 100% ancient grain sourdough well. Would love to hear how you make yours Tara. Currently still doing a blend of stoneground bakers flour with freshly milled ancient grains (kamut or spelt mainly) - whenever I increase the ratio the bread doesn’t seem to work as well, so I’m sure I’m missing something.

I’m curious as to your vet care approach with your dogs, i.e., vaccines, spaying/neutering, tick/flea treatments, labs. Let’s just say I’m skeptical of what Big Pharma has on offer. Do wolves get mammary cancer from not being spayed? I doubt it.

The science is totally clear dogs need their hormones for health.Mental, joint, tendon, ligament health, less cancer, even their coats are negatively affected by alteration. If you aren't a responsible enough dog owner or have LGDs where they are supervised often then at least wait until they're 2 to alter. PS my male neutered at 6months got a prostate infection. Neutering does not prevent prostate issues. He is actually now on dog TRT at 14 and has literally gained years back in his life and vitality. I will never alter a dog again and have never had an unwanted litter. Our males lose their ever loving mind weeks before our female is ever in a receptive state. Most professional dog people do not alter their dogs.

I’d love to know all about your new puppy! How do you go about choosing a breed? How far did you go to get him, how much are you willing to spend on a trustworthy breed or what’s your ethos for choosing a dog, and any other musings you have about doggos.

Hello!

Do you still use berkey as a water filter? There was a bit of “drama” with their filters and they aren’t selling them, but another company boroux is. I couldn’t quite figure out what all the hubaloo was about and wanted to make sure I’m adequately and safely filtering my water as it’s quite an expensive system to have bought and now having to flounder to find the filters from other companies makes me wary.

Hi Tara! I’d love to know what specific medicinal tinctures you make and think are important to have on hand? Same for herbs to grow… What are your must have medicinal herbs you always grow and herbs for culinary use and infusions?

Also what is your Fermented Mustard and Horseradish recipe oh myyyy?!

Sneaky three part question! What are some great book recommendations you have at the moment? And do you know how we can pre order your book here in Australia?

Thanks as always Tara, for your amazing knowledge, generosity and love of sharing!

It's possible you've covered this before (prior to my knowing about you), so please excuse if this is duplication. But I'd like to know more about your milk-cow methods. We have 3 milk cows (Jerseys), and all of them are really different in terms of their calving and freshening. We leave the calves with their moms and calf share in varied ways. My question is, what is your method for the first week after they calve? Do you start milking daily (once or twice)? And if the calf is a heifer, do you try to halter train right away and/or have you kept heifers and trained them? I realize this exceeds one question, but I'd really like to talk to you on what's worked best for you and your cows. Thank you!

I have been making yogurt lately, which means I have lots of whey. I used it to make fermented lemonade which was delicious and a great success! I wanted to branch out to use some of the other juices I have like apple and grape, but it seems as though they are turning into alcohol, even when refrigerated, and I am confused by that because I was under the impression that lacto-fermentations wouldn’t produce alcohol. Do you have any resources that might help me? Or advice about what to do with my extra whey?

I second this... I have so much whey from yogurt making and currently just use it to ferment my chicken feed. Not really a waste but still not sure I'm optimizing my use of the whey.

I see lots of whey in cheese making, but never yogurt. My yogurt only gets the little bit of whey separating out as you take some to use.

We buy our meat from a lovely farmer. He has a herd of cows that graze on grass all year round. The bull stays with them, and the calves stay with their mothers until it’s time to harvest them.

I recently asked him if he also gets milk from the mother cows. He told me that he really tried, but he doesn't get a drop because the calves are always faster than him.

Is that because he doesn't have Jersey cows? Or how do you manage to get your share of the milk or the colostrum?

I promised him I would ask you, and I really hope we might be able to get some milk from his cows too!😉

Thank you so much for everything you share, Tara!

Lots of love from Switzerland!

Hello Tara, I’m curious to know what you do to stay cool in the summer, especially while working hard and cooking and preserving in the kitchen? Do you have an air conditioner? Do you just have windows open for the breeze and deal with the heat on hot still days? Do you use fans? Just cool down in the shade outside? Would love some tips and tricks on how to stay cool!

And when I ask that I just imagine my great grandma has got to be laughing at me as she spent so many summers in her hot little kitchen preserving food and not complaining about the heat🤣

Have you read the book “can you catch a cold?” By Daniel Roytas…. I highly recommend. If you search him in the podcast app also he has his own show and has recently been on many others shows due to the recent release of his book. The book is a culmination of studies through the ages done on contagion.

Roytas talks about how Governments around the world “predict” a wave of cold and flu when humidity drops…

Sudden shifts in weather can initiate changes in the body, often triggering detox responses. When temperatures drop, blood vessels constrict, reducing circulation to extremities and slowing detox pathways.

The cold, dry air can irritate mucosal linings, prompting the body to produce mucus to protect and cleanse itself.

And then on the other hand, sudden warmth can activate sweating and lymphatic movement, aiding in detoxification.

Very interesting indeed 😅

We did 75 hard during the holidays one year so no alcohol and no sweet processed desserts. WE never got the usual cold! If I eat too much sweets I will get a 'cold' the next day. Now add in family, traffic, clutter everywhere stress of the holidays and bam everyone gets a 'cold'.

Tara, how does a 45-year-old woman begin again after years of significant loss—losing her dad, her beloved cat, and her marriage—while feeling stuck in a job that no longer aligns, yet needing the income—still deeply committed to her spiritual path, longing to continue building her heart-led business, though it’s not yet enough to live on, and some days the direction feels unclear, especially when the typical social media marketing path doesn’t feel aligned, all while still dreaming of a simpler, soulful life, cultivating deeper relationships and community, and calling in a loving, values-aligned partner? Any words of wisdom for how to move forward with grace and clarity and being with the fear of wondering if I will ever be able to live out some of my dreams that, on some days, feel so far out of reach. Thank you!
