I breathed in a tree today. It had an old healed split deep in one side. It lives beside a playground beside an elementary school. The howls it heard before the laughter and the screams of freedom from the released energy each day. The stories untold in the bumps and the growths. The starlight its grown in and the composted loss it has slurped from its wide deep roots... it shared a poem with me today, that I promptly forgot as the squeals enveloped my heart once again, but before I forgot, in that moment of being human beside a tree being tree, I felt expansive and free.

Thank you for sharing that with us, Alli. Trees are such powerful connectors to the cosmos. ❤️

Such joy into my heart reading this, Tara. I have similar such conversations with a 500yr old oak tree who has seen more turmoil, upheaval and change than I could possible witness in my sojourn on this earth. Nature beings keeping it real!

Thank you Tara! Your way with words connects straight to my centre. Your sensemaking in this increasingly senseless world is part of my tether and I so appreciate it!

Do I dare add synthetic fear to all the other comforts we've generated? To some, fear is comfort, unfortunately. On a more important note, beavers are fascinating creatures. I share your adoration and willingness to sit on a frozen pond and wonder.

This is very true, Annie. Fear as addiction. I was just listening to a podcast with Dr. Mercola and a psychiatrist that wrote a book called, "The United States of Fear". I would like to get it. He spoke about fear addiction - don't have to look hard for that in today's world.

Ugh! This is layered with so many wonderful metaphorical and literal bits. I look forward to the day when humans part from zoos. Animal recue operations are one thing, though one could query if man never put the animal in danger would there be a need to rescue the animal? I’ve seen great displays of animal “enclosures” that give animals the opportunity to live naturally but these are only on reserves with a tremendously great amount of land and weather conditions meant for the animal (like in Nairobi Kenya - sans elephant because the land doesn’t permit the animal to have sufficient space to roam). Anywuzzle, animals come to us for reasons and learning to read these signs is something the ancestors truly valued. I’m so glad you listened to that beaver! I’m ever more pleased that you shared this with us.

Wonderful conversation full of thoughtful questions. Reminds me to foster that in my children and also to let them be a little more wild like mr. beaver. Thank you for the video. I’ve never seen a wild beaver select and take down a tree before. They are wonderful!

Thank you Tara! I couldn’t agree more! I’ve been asking these questions my whole life. Good to know I’m not alone! I played down in the snow for some peace after my morning ski and it was everything just to be surrounded by the forgotten treasure and connection of nature. Listening. I cherish your writing💛

Playing in the snow sounds like quite the antidote for the silliness of our time.
