I just love the anticipation of the changing of the seasons. We still have a lot of winter left here in northern Maine, but we are tapping trees and look forward to chores each morning to see if we have had another calf. My holstein is going to be freshening in a couple of weeks and I’m looking forward to milking her again. Spring is peeking here and there. Thank you for your beautiful words Tara, they paint a wonderful picture of life the way it should be.❤️
I think H.D. Thoreau must have reincarnated as you. Your writings are as poignant, eloquent & profound, in their impact on me! I almost always feel as if I am right there with you guys.
Here in Colorado (not on a farm, but in the mountains in a small town), I always await the return of the Red-tail hawks and the pasque flowers. And the ice leaving the lake, until next year.
Excellent! I have not been down that way since '87! But I now have 4 different friends/family that own homes there...hope to visit some time this year...(Belleair, Lauderdale, Bonita Springs, Cape Coral)...take care!
A beautiful reminder to slow down and enjoy the beauty and changes around us. In the past I have often got caught in that trAp of hurrying to the next thing to get done. Since finding you on IG you have encouraged me to slow down and enjoy what’s going on. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing! Your words always paint some of my favorite pictures! Our spring started here all the sudden last week, in ND... Baby kittens, chicken coop cleaning, and the geese flying above to find you in Canada! Sending love and prayers!
That sounds like a lovely day. Days like that mark a change of a season and recognizing its important to the rhythm of life. Here in Wisconsin spring is slow and we are still in the grips of winter. Spring is finally here when lilacs bloom. I then say, I have lived another year.
My golden retriever, Matilda, will be giving birth to her first litter next month. Spring puppies. I’ve never bred a dog but if I would - I would choose her as the mother. Live goes on and not January 1 but spring - the new year returns in spring.
Our pond is spring fed so it’s already unfrozen and had ducks visiting all week 😍 With geese abound above and so many wonderful chirps and sounds welcoming spring back! I can’t nearly put it into eloquent words like you do, but your words resonate so deeply 💓
I always struggle with the coming season. It’s always such a hard transition and I find finding the balance so difficult. How to get things done and still enjoy the small moments? How to not miss the sweet moments of spring, of seasonality and not feel the pressure and stress to keep pushing?
So beautiful! Always a pleasure to read. I was wondering whether you might write sometime some more about pasture upkeep? I immediately googled frost seeding! What are your preferred pasture mixes?
This spring is my first on the little (13 acre) homestead that I moved up to last summer. After a wet, dark winter, we’ve been met with spring full force; one of the goats miraculously started producing milk without a pregnancy, the turkeys are back, and there’s a restlessness felt by all. This morning, after herding in loose horses, I sat with one of the other women who lives up here, and we tried to articulate much of what you’ve written. Both of us struggle to be inside during the day, and are want to errant forays in the redwoods. I’m sure I’ve commented this before, but I find comfort and direction in your words. It’s a strange time to be 25!
I live near a lake where I can sometimes catch the geese landing onto the water in V-formation. It's beautiful. It's funny how they make a LOT of noise while doing so! Announcing their presence maybe?

Thanks for starting my day off right!
Well said Steve
Thanks, Guy...enjoy this early Spring day!
I am afraid it’s already summer here in Florida

A very relaxing read on this very rainy morning. Thanks so much! It’s so easy to visualize with your writing style.

I feel like I am smack-dab in the middle of your world, and it is beautiful.
Beautiful. I felt optimistically peaceful just reading it. Loved the moment in the sun with your fur babies!
What a lovely read! I’m in Rhode Island and heard geese flying north overhead this weekend, I like to think they made their way to you.
