Damn... I don’t think we’ve ever seen all your freezers in one go like that... what a beauty sight! Looking forward to hearing of this 2023 food adventure. Also very slick of Troy to run out and grab some last minute venison. Have a great trip, thanks again for sharing this wicked freezer/pantry tour.
The abundance! What a blessing and testament to your hard work!!
Please keep us posted on the baby grandma! Were praying for the beauty and love of homebirth, all the goodness for the new mama. There are A LOT of mamas here who have hombirthed and navigated babies and small humans in the recent years, in this increasingly oppressive and strange world.. please don't hesitate to each out ever should your daughter want some comraderie, insight or, seriously, anything at all. My mother was with me during our first homebirth and it bonded us in a new way. And I know yall are self sufficient so may not need us commentators so just know we are here should it be just one thing youve not encountered in the new landscape. SO much love travelling to your daughter and her baby on thier journey to deliver the sweet bundle earthside and into mamas arms❤️
What a generous and beautiful offering Pholiday. Thank you. I will pass along your kind words. ❤️❤️ I can’t wait to meet this little one and to see my beautiful girl become a mother.
Oh Tara - seeing the pictures of your bounty helped me immensely this morning. We have five full freezers going into this winter as well as a fully stocked pantry filled with beautiful jars of preserved food in it's many forms. It was feeling a bit like excess - but now I'm feeling like maybe it was the right thing to do. Thank you. Safe travels and best wishes for an amazing time with your family!
I think the timing of completing your harvest and the impending birth of your grand baby is simply the coolest thing. Enjoy the fruits of your labors ❤️❤️❤️
I showed your hubby a video of us skinning our deer at work using a golf ball and a truck. It takes 5 min. No hair on the meat. A perfectly intact hide. And you can get to harvesting right away! Sounds like he didn’t opt for that option this time but next time he should try lol! Enjoy that venison ! Sending positives vibes to you guys as you await your grand baby!
Honestly the easiest way to describe it is going on YouTube and searching . Skinning a deer with a golf ball. It sounds insane and I had never done it . I always like skinning with a knife because it was calming and meditative ( might sound weird but it was). Essentially you lift the deer up (hoist, tractor bucket etc) by the head. Cut around the neck. Pull the hide down 5 inches and sinch a golf ball in there with some cable attached to a rope . The rope then ties to your vehicles hitch and you slowly drive away. It’s important to cut the hide down the neck to mid sternum so that it peals well over the shoulders as you drive with your rope. Again a YouTube video would probably explain it much better. We haven’t gone back . Great thing is once it’s skinned then you have a clean body to go ahead and gut the deer. We have never used this on other animals but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for lamb etc. Beef would be to large I think .
Also ... wishing you & Troy every single blessing for the birth of this new tiny radiant one ... and know that your girl and her beloved and this newbie are surrounded by the love, grace & protection of many “surrogate” Aunties & “Grandmas” here in this community who are holding this sacred time deep in their hearts ... sending blessings & love for a wondrous and beautiful birth ... with the safe, gentle and vibrantly healthy arrival of this new babe. ✨❤️🦋
Wow this is glorious!!! I’ve never seen such a beautiful pantry & freezer. All the best wishes for your daughter & grandbaby making their appearance earthside 🙏
That’s just so cool! It makes my brain explode but my heart so proud of you both. I showed my dear hubby the pictures, and he, being an English major, just commented “dear hubby just shot?” That’s terrible!🤣Moral of the story is, if one marries an English major, one gets what one deserves!
Seeing all your freezers, refrigerators, and the root cellar in action was...amazing. Wow. Just Wow!
Oh, good! Thanks so much, Louisa.
Oh the abundance!! What a joyful sight in these photos-
The fruits and meats and jars and freezers of so much labor! What beautiful sights! All to nourish your bodies in the coming year-
And even more joyful?? The coming arrival of a grandbaby...to nourish your hearts and souls... a joy unlike any other to be certain!!
Sending you especially Tara, and also Troy and your family, so much love for this new season of life. 💛💛💛
Thank you so much, Jeanie. Your kindness is happily received and assimilated. :)

I'm intrigued! I will ask him about it. No, it was skinning by tractor headlights this go around. :)
Wow 5 minutes & no hair?? Please share your method. My husband is good but there’s always hair I have to deal with
